Orchidaceae is the largest family of flowering plants. The name is derived from Orchis. This pink orchid is stunning and bold. The petals have fine darker pink striations. The scent is rare and sweet.

Orchid Blossoms a Second Time
Orchids will continue to bloom, year after year, with the right conditions, that is. They like to be root bound and have enough light and water. They like to have humidity, so bathrooms and kitchens make great places for these lovelies to thrive. And the blooming process is amazing to witness: a spike, buds, then swelling and opening. Amazing.

Heart of an Orchid
It's an amazing thing, the inside of a flower. This one looks like the back of a throat. I'm intrigued how in nature there are so many things that look humanly physical in nature. I have several orchids among my house plants. Unfortunately, the orchids seldom bloom. I've heard that orchids need heat and humidity. I'm reminded of getting off the plane in Hawaii and how the humidity hit me in the face. And the fragrance, tropical, delicious. I can see why it makes orchids flourish.
