I love this old-fashioned flower, brown and yellow bearded iris. My mother used to grow a few flowers. Her favorite were petunias, but she also grew iris along the side of the house. The house may have come that way, for all I know. But the thrill of the iris is like no other, and the smell of violets--sheez louise.

Bearded Iris
Brown and yellow iris. I took this shot in Manito Gardens. I grew up in Spokane and every time I go home to visit, I must visit the gardens. They are replete with flowers, both free flowing and organized. Everything is deadheaded, weeded, and labeled. Plants are nicely spaced and colors are thought out. I lost my contact in that park when I was sixteen. My boyfriend and I were having an afternoon lazing on a blanket just beyond the fountain and the formal gardens. I believe it was worth the flack I got when I returned home

Yellow and Purple Iris
Manito Garden's Iris Garden, Purple and Yellow Iris. I photographed this iris last summer. The yellow and purple are reminiscent of iris in older gardens I've had.

Bearded Iris

Light brown and yellow antique iris found around old homes. The "Honorabile" was bred by Nicolas Lemon in 1840. It smells slightly of lemons.
